Why is a pharmacist contacting me from my cardiologist’s office?
At Capital Cardiology Associates (CCA), while we don't have a dispensing pharmacy, we do have a dedicated clinical pharmacy team that plays an integral role in your overall cardiovascular care. This team works closely with our cardiologists, nurses, and clinical staff to ensure that your medication therapy is both safe and effective, tailored specifically to your individual health needs.
Our clinical pharmacy team is composed of three highly trained professionals: four clinical pharmacists and a post-graduate pharmacy resident who is completing their second year of advanced training in cardiovascular care. These experts collaborate with your cardiology care providers to select the most appropriate medication therapies for your condition, ensuring that your treatment plan is optimized for the best possible outcomes.
But their role goes beyond just selecting medications. Our pharmacists are here to support you in a variety of ways:
Medication Adherence: They can work with you to develop strategies that help you take your medications as prescribed, which is crucial for managing your cardiovascular health effectively.
Patient Education: Our pharmacists can explain how your medications work, what benefits you can expect, and what potential side effects might occur. They also provide guidance on how to manage any side effects you might experience.
Insurance and Affordability: Navigating insurance issues and medication costs can be challenging. Our pharmacy team can assist in finding solutions to make your medications more affordable and ensure that you have access to the therapies you need.
Safe Medication Administration: Whether it’s understanding how to take your medications correctly or how to safely administer injectables, our pharmacists are available to guide you.
The CCA Clinical Pharmacy team is available for comprehensive in-person visits as well as convenient telephone consultations. They are ready to answer any questions you might have about your medications, whether it’s about potential side effects, interactions with other drugs or supplements, understanding the purpose of a medication, or even tips on how to remember to take your pills.
