Dr. Scott Purga grew up in Schenectady. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University, College of Arts and Science with dual major in Medical Science and Psychology. While at Boston University, he was enrolled in the seven-year accelerated medical program, was a recipient of the Distinguished Sophomore Award (given to the Top 40 students of the class year), and honored by Phi Beta Kappa. He received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, where he was a recipient of the Anthony L.F. Gorman Prize in Physiology and honored Alpha Omega Alpha. While at Boston University, Dr. Purga was an Introduction to Clinical Medical Instructor. Dr. Purga’s post graduate training was at New York Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center with a residency in Internal Medicine. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Albany Medical Center.


After his post-graduate training, Dr. Purga joined Capital Cardiology Associates in the summer of 2019. He is a member of the American Medical Association, a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography. He has published research in peer-reviewed journals in the fields of preventative cardiology, pulmonary hypertension, and congestive heart failure. Dr. Purga was awarded the Theodore L. Biddle, MD Endowed Prize in Cardiology, for “Representing the Caring, Humanistic and Sensitive Approach to Patient Care and Patient Advocacy” by Albany Medical Center in 2019. Dr. Purga is the medical director of laboratory services at Capital Cardiology, and the Division Chief of Non-invasive Cardiology at Samaritan Hospital. He has special interests in cardiovascular imaging and cardio-oncology.
