CCA Gives Back: Capital Cardiology Supports Global Mission With Lifesaving Donation

At the Glens Falls Medical Mission’s annual Cerveza Shuffle fundraiser in Saratoga Spa State Park on August 10, Capital Cardiology Associates donated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to support the Mission’s work in Guatemala.

Kate Cabral, PharmD, and Katherine Eberhardt, NP, from Capital Cardiology’s Cardiometabolic Clinic, presented the AED to Mission Board members on behalf of the practice. Cabral has long been involved with the Glens Falls Medical Mission and has participated in previous missions to Guatemala. The AED they presented will accompany the team on its October 2025 trip to Nueva Santa Rosa, and mark the first time the Mission has brought this type of equipment to its clinic.

Christine L. McDonald, President of the Glens Falls Medical Mission Board, expressed the team’s gratitude: “The AED will be so important for our ability to save lives in the event that the AED is needed. It’s a blessing for us and for the people of Guatemala who we serve.”

Ben Graham, Vice President of the Mission’s Board of Directors, underscored how significant this gift will be: “Many of our patients are elderly and high risk and this AED, a first to accompany a mission trip, can prove to be lifesaving in the event of cardiac failure.”

Graham also described the long-standing scope of the Mission’s work: “The Glens Falls Medical Mission Foundation has been going to the same location in Nueva Santa Rosa twice a year for over 25 years. The needs of the population are great. We will see sometimes over 1,000 unique patients, with over 2,500 clinic visits during our week-long stay. We set up a triage unit, clinics for women’s health, pediatrics, general medicine, pharmacy, dental, sometimes eyeglasses, nutrition, psychology, and more.”

Both Graham and McDonald offered their thanks to Dr. Lance Sullenberger and Capital Cardiology Associates for making the donation possible and for supporting the Mission’s ongoing work.

As Graham explained, the Mission’s longevity has built lasting bonds: “Needless to say, we have developed a great relationship with the people and municipality of Nueva Santa Rosa.”

Capital Cardiology Associates is honored to support this partnership and the volunteers who bring medicalcare to communities in need.
