Amanda Travis, MS, RD, CDN

Amanda is a registered dietitian with experience in providing medical nutrition therapy for patients with a wide range of chronic diseases to help promote healthier lifestyles. Amanda completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition Science and her dietetic internship through Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. After passing her credentialing exam, Amanda began a career in clinical nutrition, working in both long-term care and acute care settings. Amanda continued her education by completing her Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration to gain additional experience with program planning in order to be better equipped to create successful programs that promote better nutritional outcomes for patients. Amanda is credentialed through the Commission on Dietetic Registration and is also a Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist with the State of New York.

 

After working in the fast-paced hospital world, I am excited to join Capital Cardiology Associates to foster closer relationships with patients and be able to follow along with their journey in achieving better overall health. My philosophy on nutrition counseling is to start with small steps to help promote significant lifestyle changes. What is a Registered Dietitian?

en: Registered Dietitian is a food and nutrition expert that has completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an accredited nutrition program, a dietetic internship, and a credentialing exam. A dietitian provides comprehensive medical nutrition therapy (MNT) which is an evidenced based approach to managing and preventing chronic diseases through the analysis of current nutrition habits and creation of individualized nutrition recommendations.

Who can Benefit from Meeting with a Registered Dietitian?

Nutrition counseling is available for those with:

What can I expect from meeting with a registered dietitian?

When meeting with the dietitian you will discuss current dietary habits, diet goals, weight management, exercise and physical activity habits, and much more. The purpose of nutrition counseling is to empower patients to create their own nutrition and health goals and develop an individualized plan to achieve those goals. Examples of topics that can be discussed include: hjärthälsa, weight management, cooking/meal preparation tips, hälsa & wellness, and many more!

How can I meet with the dietitian?

Please speak with your doctor to receive a referral for nutrition services or call 518-292-6004 to make an appointment. Initial visits typically take 1 hour and follow-up appointments are 30 minuter. Appointments are available at 7 Southwoods Boulevard in Albany, Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm.

What Should I Bring to My Appointment?

Please bring a list of prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, and dietary supplements with you to the appointment. It is recommended that patients complete a three-day food record, as found on the website, to better understand current dietary habits however this is not a required step. Patients are also encouraged to bring a list of nutrition questions and any food labels to aid in discussion.

  • How many calories should I be eating?
  • What foods can I eat to improve my blood pressure?
  • How many times a day should I eat?
  • How can I increase fruit and vegetable consumption?
  • What foods can I eat to better control my blood sugars?
