WHAT IS ATTR-CM?
ATTR-CM IS A TYPE OF CARDIAC AMYLOIDOSIS CAUSED BY MISFOLDING PROTEINS THAT CAN CAUSE HEART FAILURE.
Many of the symptoms of ATTR-CM are similar to those of other, more common causes of heart failure—like shortness of breath, fatigue, and peripheral edema (swelling in the lower legs)—which is why it is often misdiagnosed. But patients may also have seemingly unrelated symptoms, like bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome and numbness or tingling in the hands and feet.
